Miss World USA Titleholders

The Miss World USA Pageant was a great show which chose the American representatives for the Miss World Pageant, hence the name.

In 1951, the representative was Annette Gibson of Louisville, Kentucky, and in 1952 it was Telly Richards of South Carolina. Between 1953 and 1957, the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant went to Miss World.

From 1958-1963, the winners of the Miss United States Pageant went to Miss World. In 1964, there was a Miss United States contest, but it was not to choose the American rep for Miss World: rather, another pageant, apparently held the same day, chose the US rep.

In 1965, the Miss World USA Pageant officially began, and it ran until 1980 (the name changed to Miss World America in 1978, however). Following the demise of Miss World USA (Miss World America), between 1982 and 1991, the first runner-up from the Miss USA Pageant again was chosen to go to Miss World (in 1981, the second runner-up went).

In 1992, Rex Holt and Richard Guy, the famed GuyRex team, obtained the rights to send the American delegate and founded the (new) Miss World America Pageant, which ran between 1992 and 1994. They discontinued the pageant in 1995, but GuyRex chose the winner at-large (without a formal pageant) for 1995, 1996, and 1997. In 1998, an American modelling agent, Hirsh Wilck, purchased the rights to send the US contestant.

There has been a fair amount of confusion in recent years in regards to the U.S. reps to Miss World. The delegates from 2001 and 2002 were selected quite unceremoniously, however, a few things are certain: "Pageantry" magazine, based in Florida, was asked to assist Carrie Stroup in 2001, and Rebekah Revels was asked to participate by a new franchiseholder, "Miss World U.S." A seperate "Miss World U.S." elected Kimberly Harlan in 2003 (supposedly) by mail-in entry and telephone interviews, after a pageant slated for September was canceled.
