Cynthia Kereluk

Meet the remarkable Cynthia Kereluk, Miss Canada 1984. Orphaned at an early age, she grew up in Summerland, British Columbia in a home with nine other foster children, some with mental and physical handicaps. After completing high school, she finished a Bachelor of Education degree at Simon Fraser University in B.C. and moved to Edmonton, Alberta when she was unable to find work. Having lived in Edmonton for just about one year, she entered the Miss Edmonton Pageant on a lark and was surprised to find herself the winner.

Next stop, the Miss Canada Pageant in Toronto, where, of course, she emerged victorious. To say that she was surprised and delighted to hear her name called is quite the understatement, as Cynthia quite literally shook out of surprise and took a very teary-eyed walk down the Miss Canada runway.

Cynthia represented Canada in the 1984 Miss Universe Pageant in Miami, and has had her own exercise television program, "Everyday Fitness", for more than 15 years now, which airs on the Lifetime Network in the USA and on WTN in Canada.

Her last name, by the way, is pronounced "Kerr-ah-luck"; it seems absolutely everyone calls her "Ms. Care-ah-luck". Though she truly is a thoughtful and caring individual, be sure to put the em-PHA-sis on the correct syl-LA-ble.
