The Miss Northern Ontario Pageant began in 1974 as a way to bring together the dozens of small communities that make up the northern region of the province of Ontario. The pageant was a preliminary for the now-defunct Miss Canada for several years, and remains today as a exceptionally well-organized pageant with its roots in the community and its volunteers. To this day, all contestants must first win their town or city pageant before competing in the regional finals.
The event folded in 2004, however, new producer Cheryl Kozera created the excellent Miss North Ontario Regional Canada event the following year. The event is currently a preliminary to Miss World Canada, however, most importantly, the contest winner represents the region at countless events as a tourism ambassador. Enjoy!
