The first runner-up was Kim Yee, Miss St. Albert (Alberta) Universe, the only girl from the West in the top five. The second runner-up was Alison Graham, Miss Southern Ontario Universe, a lovely hearing-impaired brunette from Mt. Brydges, Ont. Third runner-up was Gita Bali, Miss Northern Québec Universe, who is already making waves in India's movie world. The fourth runner-up was Farrah Melanie Haniff, Miss Interior of Ontario Universe, a tall, articulate brunette of Guyanese origin from Markham, Ont. Congrats to the top five!

Of special significance this year, is that the honour of directing all five girls in the top five AND all of the award winners goes to ONE person: Marie-Josée. Congratulations to her on success.

The 1999 Canadian Search for Miss Universe (Miss Canadian Universe) Pageant takes place at the Citidel Theatre's Shoctor Stage in Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday, March 31. This year, a record 31 contestants from all across the country will be competing to represent Canada at the 1999 Miss Universe Pageant, the finals of which are on May 26 in Trinidad and Tobago. The pageant is run by Chan International Models in Edmonton, and several regional directors work year-round to bring contestants to the lovely Alberta city for the contest finals. March 28—Where are they now? Several contestants from previous years' Miss Canadian Universe pageants are still making waves in the pageant world today! Caroline Frolic, last year's third runner-up, is the reigning Miss Intercontinental Canada and leaves to compete at the Miss Intercontinental international finals in Bochum, Germany this week. She's the first Canadian to take part in the pageant in over 15 years! Good luck to you, Caroline! Shannon McArthur and Angel Dennis both competed last year, and Renee Prusak was a contestant in the 1995 pageant.
