Meet the remarkable Cristina Rémond
Name: Cristina Yvonne Rémond
Age: 20
Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius
Hometown: Montréal, Québec
Hobbies: I am a citizen of the world and immerse myself in different cultures whenever possible. I love travel, language and tradition. I have a very close relationship with animals, especially horses and choose four-legged transportation whenever possible. I ballroom dance, and have been playing piano since I was six. I often get lost in books and love to laugh.
Languages: English, French, Hungarian, German, and I am currently studying Spanish.
Favourite Food: My mother's and grandmother's Hungarian cooking!
Education: Currently taking second-year university courses by correspondence while working as Miss Canadian Universe and with my platform of Human Rights Awareness. Will return to studies in Public Admistration and Policy Management after passing on Miss Canadian Universe title.
Words to Live By: "Every man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind." - John Donne
Life Ambition: Many people assume that one's life ambition is the same as their career goal. I do not believe this is so. Women have worked so hard to achieve independance and equality, we sometimes forget or scorn our feminity. My life goal is to balance those aspects of my life which make me a woman: my sensitivity and caring, my current and future family and love, with those that make me a woman of the 21st century: career, ambition, and a desire to change the world.
My Career: [My] ambition is to work with the United Nations on a permanent basis, targeting universal human rights and sustainable development. Through political involvement, I strive to improve the lives of others, not by helping them, but by eradicating and reforming the systems that work against them. My college career has been dedicated to researching the effectiveness of human rights systems. Future involvement in the Canadian Armed Forces and a focused university education will help prepare me for the world stage.
Volunteer Activities: I am currently a volunteer with #1 West Montreal Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets, where I work in the training department as a civilian instructor, teaching cadets in subjects such as airplane propulsion, leadership and survival skills. I am also a coordinator of the Duke of Edinburgh Student Mentorship Program. Additionally, I work extensively with many charities including the Children's Wish Foundation of Montreal, and with the elderly through the Geratric Ward of Montreal General Hospital, the Maimonedes Geriatric Center and the Montreal Dialysis Society.
Special Training and Achivements: 7 years paramilitary training with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets; graduated as Squadron Commander of Air Cadets; 12 years formal piano instruction; even walked on fire.
Achievements of Distinction: Received Private Pilot's License on scolarship at age 17; awarded Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence; Best overall assessment (highest mark) in Canada, and chosen as Cadet Ambassador to Australia, 1999; award-winning debater and public speaker; modeled worldwide.
Platform or Special Interest: Human Rights affects, without exception, every man, woman and child on earth. Regardless of age, ethnicity, impairment or gift, we are all intrinsically equal. It is our responsibility to transmit this message to entities that work against the achievement of Human Rights for all. Human Rights Violations happen every day, every where, on every scale. Children without food or education, women persecuted for seeking equality, ordinary citizens persecuted for seeking freedom; these are just a few examples of what millions survive daily. We each have the capacity to improve, in some way, the lives of others. We all have human rights, let us not forget our human responsibility.
