Let's celebrate the beginning of the sultry month of August by presenting a young woman whose country is accustomed to 20+ hour days of sunlight right around this time. Now that makes for some warm weather!
Margareta Arvidsson, a lovely Swedish beauty, won the Miss Universe crown a mere 33 years ago, and it certainly was a trying moment for her...she moaned sadly at the conclusion of the pageant's television broadcast, "I'm so tired..." Was this to be a Miss Universe that would pass up her crown?
No, no, dear reader. Margareta, the second Swede to win the crown, was on hand to crown her successor one year later, a lovely American belle by the name of Sylvia Hitchcock; you can find a photo of Sylvia also on JPP's historical pageant photo spread.
Margareta is pictured her with her court of honour: from left, fourth runner-up, Aviva Israeli of Israel; first runner-up, Satu Charlotta Ostring of Finland; Margareta; second runner-up, Cheranand Savetanand of Thailand; and third runnner-up, Yasmin Daji of India.
Enjoy the wicked and wild weather of this muggy month!
You can find additional FABULOUS historical pageant photos at Beauty School. Enjoy their wonderful and thought-provoking reports, quizzes and other features as well!
